00:00 There's a ton of attorney videos out there that tell you how you should handle
00:04 an investigation for DWI as you're being stopped by a police officer. Now most of
00:09 us don't go around online looking for videos that talk about that until it's
00:14 too late. I think the more important question is is that what do you do after
00:19 you've been arrested for a DWI because that's what I think most people are
00:21 going online and looking for and the answer is pretty simple. Look in San
00:26 Antonio or Bexar County, if you've been stopped for a DWI, you should be leaving with some
00:31 information about how you've got a temporary license for about 15 days, and you've got that
00:36 time to request what's called an administrative license revocation hearing. That's going to keep
00:41 your license alive. Now, the first thing that you should be doing when you get out of jail is
00:46 contacting a lawyer now, or at least looking for one that you want to hire. I take a lot of comfort
00:52 in being able to talk to clients who have their free consult with me and telling them, look,
00:57 in all likelihood, the worst case scenario is already behind you because you spent the night
01:01 in jail. And there's a pretty strong likelihood that that's the last time you're going to have to
01:05 spend time in jail on this case. So what you need to be doing is looking for an attorney
01:11 who gives you a free consult that you can talk to. Find the one that you're comfortable with.
01:15 That attorney should be requesting the ALR for you, handling that matter so they can try to keep
01:20 your license alive and if that doesn't work getting you an occupational license. Next to that,
01:25 that attorney should be talking to you about how strong your case is. Now in San Antonio,
01:30 Bexar County, the beautiful thing is you're going to get most likely a dash cam, a body camera,
01:36 a backseat camera. Your attorney is going to be able to see everything that law enforcement saw,
01:40 if not more. Next, they'll be able to go through and pick apart any issues or problems that exist
01:47 within that DWI case. Next to that, they're going to put all of your character information together,
01:52 all of the pros that are going back in your life that show what a good individual that you are.
01:58 That way, that arms that defense attorney with going forward and talking to the prosecutor,
02:02 putting your best foot forward as a person, as an individual, and then next, trying to argue your
02:08 case. So what you should be doing after you've been arrested is exactly what you're probably
02:13 doing right now. Look and find the lawyer that fits you best. I'm Brian Powers, criminal defense
